Mens health is very important. Hey man, How do you feel?
Wide spread interest in mens health developed in the 1990’s in answer to the feminist movement that started in the 1980’s and the improvement and knowledge of women’s health that resulted from that. Even to day with all this knowledge gained the answer as to “Why do women live longer than men?” cannot be answered.
The fact that women outlive men is acknowledged in the majority of countries be they rich or poor, the reason for them doing so is not known.
Men physically are larger, stronger and faster than the women. This has lead to men traditionally being the leaders, hunters, warriors, farmers and workers.
As the human race developed these physical attributes of the sexes evolved into the women staying home, making a warm comfortable nest for her man, a caring environment for his children, cleaning his home and preparing his meals, while the man goes off to fight the wars, business, work, put food on the table for his family. This is the way it was.
Some diseases are more common among men or affect them in different ways from women. Others affect mens health only, and, while the list is surprisingly short they are, thankfully, largely preventable.
Make the healthy lifestyle choices, eat the healthy diet, and be physically active each day. Also, sensible behaviour in dangerous situations or activities is required. If a man adopts these choices PLUS gets into the habit of talking to his Doctor often and regularly many of the body ailments that affect men can be handled easily.
Why is it fellows, that women seem to talk to each other about health matters, see their doctor regularly, and, last longer than their male companion?
Men don’t talk health matters among themselves, nor, do they talk to their Doctor.
Everybody, male and female, should consult their Doctor at least once a year after the age of 40. This is the most important preventative measure a person can take.
Most men have heard of the ‘Old Mans disease’ which causes you to have to get up in the night, maybe several times, to relieve the pressure in the bladder and urinate. Men, this need not be your future. If this is happening consult your Doctor, it may be an indication of something serious.
Some of the signs that you should recognise and if they exist with you, see your Doctor as soon as possible;
- having to get up through the night to pass water,
- a weak irregular urine stream,
- difficulty or pain in passing urine,
- having to find a loo urgently when out and about,
- continually having to go to the toilet,
- dribbling after passing urine
An area of mens health that is getting a lot of attention in the media these days is Prostate Cancer, and with good cause, Prostate Cancer is probably the most common male cancer in the world accounting for many thousands of deaths each year in each country. If caught early enough can be cured, or, at least the standard of living improved.
Testicular Cancer effects one in 450 men before the age of 50 and is the most common cancer in men aged between 15 and 45. thousands and thousands of cases are diagnosed each year. It is treatable and is one of the most curable cancers with 90 percent of men making a full recovery. The first sign is usually a swelling in one of the testicles, sometime a dull ache or sharp pain felt around around the testicle or in the scrotum, the groin or lower stomach.
While a man may, just may, say that he is having trouble ‘having a leak’, or that he has a pain sometime down there he will not tell anyone about the area of mens health that he suffers from, impotence. Impotence is now more commonly known as ‘erectile dysfunction’ (ED). It is thought that 70 percent of cases have physical causes and 30 percent psychological causes. However, in many cases both are reasons for the condition. Most men experience occasions some times in their lives, when they cannot achieve or sustain an erection, as a result of fatigue, stress or excessive alcohol consumption. If you are having problems in this area talk to your Doctor, in most cases help is available.
If a man makes the correct healthy choice he will enjoy a long, happy and enjoyable life. Mens health can be improved.
